Bangladesh deaths rise as Awami League’s obsessive bloodlust against the population in general and the opposition in particular continues with a vengeance

Unbridled violence against the people of Bangladesh has resulted in the murder of more than two hundred people though the government is trying to hide the high number and broadcasting them under fifty.

The Awami League (once called the Awami Muslim League) over the years has become more and more secular–many call it “atheistic”.

The AL was facing an electoral defeat and devised a crafty plan to boost its sagging popularity. It put up kangaroo courts to persecute old men of the opposition, the Jamat e Islami and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

Now that the police and para-military forces have failed to quell the civil war, Begum Mujib has called in the Indian Army to help them quash the popular revolt against the dictatorial regime which came to power as a result of a rigged election.

Monday morning will exacerbate the situation as the BNP joins the revolt against the Nazi like tactics of Hasina Wajid. Begum Khaleda Zia of the BNP has called the current pogrom against the Muslims of Bangladesh as “genocide”

Jamaat protest strike begins this Sunday to mourn the dead and bury them.

Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, an international scholar of the Jamaat-e-Islami, was wrongfully sentenced to death on trumped up charges–without witnesses or evidence.

Thursday’s sentence sparked riots that have left more than 200 dead. The Muslims say that the tribunal is politically motivated. International analysts agree and do not give credence to the validity of the kangaroo courts set up by the Awami League.

Bangladeshi troops were called in in the northern district of Bogra. Locals allege that a contingent of Indian advisors, officers and jawans are not only coordinating but actively participating in planned pun point operations in areas where is a Preponderance of conservatism.

There were at least an additional dozen deaths in the north-western town of Godagari.

Border guards and police opened fire on protesters who were escaping Bangladesh to India.

“The BBC’s Anbarasan Ethirajan in the southern city of Chittagong says there has been no let up in the violence since the death sentence was issued.”

Three people were killed in Chittagong on Saturday and Jamaat-e-Islami has accused the police of firing without provocation.”

International agencies that police and now military power has made the common people afraid-very afraid.

Analysts say that “the intensity of the backlash against the sentences has surprised many in Bangladesh, and security forces are struggling to bring the situation under control as it is difficult to predict which districts the violence will spread to.”

The kangaroo courts are trying nine Jamaat leaders and two members of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). The BNP and other parties also oppose the AL pogroms.

Earlier this month, another Jamaat leader, Abdul Kader Mullah, was sentenced to life and former party leader Abul Kalam Azad was sentenced to death. Human rights groups have said the “tribunal falls short of international standards.”

With the entire opposition threatening more protests, there are increasing concerns over political stability of the AL and its ability to continue with this farce, hold the next elections and remain a political force in Muslim Bengal.
